Since 2014, we have been running Green Office Week events in offices across north London. During May and October 2017 we will be holding two further rounds – get in touch if you’d like to host a Green Office event in your office!
What is Green Office Week?
During a particular week, NLWA Officers hold events in each of the north London boroughs (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Waltham Forest). They set up a lunchtime stall in a communal or foyer area and staff are encouraged to come along to receive free food waste reduction advice, which could potentially save them £60 a month. They can also take advantage of free giveaways, including tools that help measure correct portions of rice and spaghetti, bag clips to keep food fresher for longer and Tupperware, ideal for saving leftovers.
In addition, the following information and messages are promoted:
- British workers spend £5.5 billion each year on shop-bought lunches.
- Preparing lunch at home helps reduce packaging waste and is often cheaper than buying directly.
- By eating last night’s leftovers for lunch, you could help reduce food waste.
Organisations which have been involved in previous Green Office Weeks include Amnesty International, the NSPCC, PTE Architects and north London council offices. During these events 3,580 members of staff were directly engaged.
This year’s first Green Office Week runs 8-13 May and recruitment is currently underway. If you would be interested to host a Green Office stall, contact the Waste Prevention Team on Tel: 020 8489 5741 or email us. Make sure to get your enquiry in early to avoid disappointment and ensure your employees get to benefit from this free and informative initiative.
