Barnet Give & Take Day, St James' Catholic High School, 27.01.2019

Great Strand, Colindale, London, NW9 5PE

27 January 2019 11:00 - 13:30

Do you want to declutter your house? Do you want to clear out some of your household items? Or, fancy picking up something (good-as) new, for free? Then come to our Barnet Give and Take Day!

Please note that this event is only open to residents of Barnet - please see the ‘How the events work’ section for more information.

What is a Give and Take Day?

A Give and Take Day is a type of community exchange event where people can bring any household item(s) that is in good condition but that they no longer want. These items are then offered for free to anyone who would like them. You don’t need to bring something in order to take something else. There is a set ‘giving’ time, before the ‘taking’ begins with a 30 minute break in between to allow us to arrange the room.

North London Waste Authority has been running Give and Take Days for a number of years. Last year, our events were attended by 670 residents who brought along with them almost 13 tonnes of materials for reuse – that’s about the same weight as 8 carsGive and Take Days help ensure that items which are still in a good condition are not just thrown away but are offered for free to those that need them.

When and where is the Barnet Give and Take Day happening?

This year's event will take place on Sunday, 27th January 2019, 11.00 am – 1.30 pm at St James High School, Great Strand, Colindale, NW9 5PE

Giving times: 11:00 am – 12.00 pm; Break: 12.00 pm – 12.30 pm; Taking times: 12.30 pm – 1.30 pm

How the event works

The Give & Take Day event lasts for two and a half hours; you can donate good quality items in the first hour and take what you need in the final hour. There will be a 30 minute break between ‘giving’ and ‘taking’ to help us reorganise the room and allow you a better browsing experience among the items.

Please note that on the event day you will be asked to register in order to attend. Each event is only open to residents of Barnet and you may be asked to show proof of address - this can be your council tax, driving licence or utilities bills.

After registration, you will be able to leave your unwanted item(s) in the designated drop-off area and you will be given a ticket to enter the room during the 'taking' part of the event. Tickets are numbered from 1 onwards and ticket holders will enter the room based on the number they receive, for example, the participant holding ticket number 1 will be at the front of the queue and will be the first person entering the room. Give & Take events can be extremely popular so you will likely need to spend time queuing in order to register for the event and enter at the ‘taking’ time.

NLWA is committed to the safe running of the Give and Take Days for both staff and visitors and is also committed to creating a safe environment for all. Residents must be considerate to others. In case of disturbance, they will be asked to leave the venue.

NLWA reserves the right to ask attendees to leave the premises in the event that their actions towards NLWA staff, contractors or other attendees, is determined by NLWA to amount to one of the following:

  • public disturbance;
  • intimidation or harassment;
  • aggressive and threatening behaviour;
  • violence; or
  • deliberate damage and misuse of the venue.

NLWA is committed to equal opportunities and Give & Take Days fully comply with the Equality Act 2010. All venues are accessible to wheelchair users and all visitors and staff are treated equally, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation

NLWA will retain personal details in line with our personal data retention policy available here. For more information about NLWA’s approach to personal data protection residents can see our Privacy Notice available here.

When registering to attend an NLWA Give & Take Day residents will be asked whether they agree to give their consent for us to retain their personal details for the purposes set out above. Attendees will also be asked if they wish NLWA to retain their personal details after the event so that they may be contacted about other Give & Take Days and events in north London in the future too. Agreement to the second of the above is not a requirement of attendance.

Cancellation or Suspension

NLWA will use its reasonable endeavours to run the Give & Take Days as advised or advertised to residents. NLWA is, however, not responsible for factors or events outside its control. In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond NLWA’s reasonable control, NLWA reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend a Give & Take Day or these terms and conditions, either in whole or in part, with or without notice.

NLWA reserves the right to suspend a Give & Take Day before or after the start of a Give & Take Day. Where NLWA exercises this right, all attendees will be advised and all attendees agree to vacate the venue immediately.
