Reduce your food waste
Food makes up a huge proportion of north London's waste and that's why reducing your food waste is one of the single biggest things you can do to help the environment. Food prices are also rising, and projects in north London have shown that by focussing on food, residents can save a huge amount of money.
Locally, NLWA is running a campaign called ‘Waste less food, save more money’ to highlight how a few simple changes to the way you plan, shop and cook every day can make a massive difference to your household budget. We'd love you to get involved and share your resourceful recipes and handy hints.

Love Food Hate Waste
Did you know that UK households throw away 7.2 million tonnes of food each year - most of which could have been eaten? When you throw away food you are not just wasting the food, but also the resources such as energy, fuel, time and water that went into growing, harvesting, storing, transporting and cooking the food. Then it produces methane if buried in landfill sites. But - each month, the average family throws away £60 of good food that was bought but not eaten. The good news is that it’s easy to reduce the amount of food you throw away (and save up to £60 a month*).
The Love Food Hate Waste campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste and help us take action. It shows that by doing some easy practical everyday things in the home we can all waste less food, which will ultimately benefit our purses and the environment too.
